The Albright College men's lacrosse team shut down Susquehanna until the third quarter on Saturday, taking a 13-4 win in Selinsgrove, Pa.
Sophomore
Philip Potter had six points on two goals and four assists. Classmate
T.J. Holston had four goals and two assists.
Defensively,
Jordan DiZenzo made nine saves (eight in the second half),
Joe Devinney forced three turnovers and
Darian Meador totaled nine ground balls.
Neither team scored for the first eight-plus minutes of the game, until
Mike Southwick tallied unassisted at 6:55. Freshman
Johnny Moore assisted classmate
Matthew Lomady late in the period.
The Lions would then run off seven more unanswered goals in the second quarter. Southwick started things off again; Potter then assisted Holston and scored twice himself for a 6-0 lead.
Potter's fourth consecutive point, on another assist to Holston, pushed the score to 7-0. Moore and
Ryan Turner tallied in the final two minutes as Albright ran its halftime lead to nine.
Connor Moran was saved by DiZenzo on Susquehanna's only shot on goal in the first half, as the Lion defense completely suffocated the hosts. The Lions caused four turnovers and held a 19-7 advantage in ground balls in the opening half.
Albright is 13-3 overall and will host Widener on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal game. It is sure to be another thrilling chapter in a budding rivalry, as Albright has knocked off Widener in overtime for two straight seasons with the Pride getting revenge in last year's conference playoffs.
