The Albright College men's lacrosse team ran a shutout streak to over 125 minutes, going on to beat rival Alvernia 21-4, Wednesday on the other side of Reading.
Sophomore
T.J. Holston tallied his sixth goal of the game with 6:06 remaining in the third quarter, pushing Albright's lead to 17-0, following an 18-0 demolition of Hood last week.
When
Paul Tarnecki scored for Alvernia late in the third, it finally broke a shutout streak of 125:19 that dated all the way back to the third quarter of Albright's 11-4 win over Neumann on March 26.
Holston totaled six goals and an assist, while
Ryan Turner added three goals and three assists.
Senior
Jordan DiZenzo kept a scoreless first half for Albright before coming out of the game, meaning he now has an active shutout streak of 72:58 heading into a tough Saturday matchup at home vs. Lycoming.
The Albright defense was dominant again, led by
Joe Devinney's four caused turnovers.
Kyle McCabe won 4-of-5 draws and had a team-high five ground balls; the Lions won 24-of-28 total faceoffs thanks to him and sophomore
Darian Meador (16-of-18, 88.9% to equal his own single game school record).
Mike Maxwell and
Andrew Poitras each had two goals and an assist, while
Justin Brown scored twice.
Connor Grant had a pair of assists.
Philip Potter opened the scoring, and the Lions still led just 4-0 early in the second quarter when the floodgates opened.
Holston and McCabe kicked off a stretch of 11 Lion goals in 13:37, as Albright led 15-0 at the break.
Albright is now 8-1, 2-0, and will play Lycoming at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
