The Albright College bats exploded in the second game of a doubleheader at Arcadia on Saturday, earning a split after a heartbreaking loss in the opener.
The Lions won 13-9 in the nightcap, after losing 3-2 following a last-chance rally by the Knights in Game One.
Sophomore
Evan High was 3-for-4 with a three RBIs and a run scored in Albright's victory. Junior
Nate Peiffer was also 4-for-5, and scored three times.
The Lions totaled 17 hits in just seven innings. Also contributing with multi-hit games were
Zac Okonski (3-for-5, 2 RBIs, 2 runs) and
Max Dundore (3-for-4, 2 RBIs, run). Senior
Kevin O'Neill gutted out five innings on three days rest, earning his second conference victory of the week.
Albright totaled five runs in the second inning. Okonski singled in
Zachary Kiebler, and
Collin Hecker added a two-RBI single that brought home Peiffer and
Brandon Triantos. High and Dundore also had RBI hits in the stanza.
The Lions kept coming, scoring three in the third and two in the fourth. High singled in Hecker and Okonski in the third inning, and two runs scored on an error one inning later.
Game One went to extra innings tied at 2-2. The Lions scored in the top of the eighth, as Hecker came home on an error.
The Knights rallied however, as
Justin Simpson singled in
Jerry Smith, and then scored the winning run on
Michael Nessel's base hit. It was the third time in the last seven Commonwealth games that the Lions had been beaten in their opponents' final at-bats.
Boll was 2-for-4 in the game, while Hecker went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Alex Myers went six innings in a no-decision effort, striking out six while allowing just one (unearned) run.
