Box Score
The Albright College men's tennis team brought home victory for their fall season opener against Penn State Abington, claiming a close 5-4 win.
Team doubles set the tone for the afternoon as the teams battled neck-to-neck for matches that could go either way. At first doubles,
Sean Purcell and
Matthew Muoio won their first match as a pair, 8-4. At second doubles,
Ken Richardson and
Ian Moore also won their first match as partners, winning with close victory of 9-7.
Two freshmen Lions, Muoio and Richardson, helped bring Albright tennis to victory in their collegiate debut, and quite a debut it was.
Muoio played the number one singles spot for Albright, winning after a three set match. After a tiebreaker in the first set (6-7, 2-5), he soon adjusted his game and dominated his Penn State Abington opponent, winning the next two sets 6-0, and 6-0.
Another new member of the Albright freshman class, Richardson, claimed the number two spot for this first game and also triumphed after a third set. Although off to a shaky start and losing his first set, Richardson quickly adapted to his opponent and won the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4.
Albright's
Terrence Goode, sophomore, also played a great match of an intense three sets at sixth doubles but concluded with a Penn State Abington win 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
At fifth singles
Cain Walter, a junior, broke a tied score of 4-4 for Albright, despite the setting sun and the change to an eight game pro-set. Conforming to the game length, Walter defeated his Penn State Abington opponent 8-4, giving Albright tennis their 5-4 lead.
