After starting the season 0-2, the Albright College women's soccer team has bounced back to a .500 record with tonight's win over Penn State Harrisburg by a score of 4-1.
Albright set an aggressive offensive pace early in the game. Following a near goal by sophomore
Taylor Cassedy, freshman
Emily Sousa netted her second goal of the season on a long breakaway to give Albright the 1-0 lead.
Although Penn State had several scoring chances throughout the first half, they couldn't execute off of their opportunities.
The visiting Lions almost tied the game on a breakaway, but Albright greshman
Suzanne Kuhrmann was able to hustle back and clear the ball after it bounced past goalkeeper
Alexis Lorusso.
Albright carried their momentum into the second half when Sousa buried her second goal of the night, putting the Lions up 2-0.
Just minutes later, PSU Harrisburg nearly cut the deficit in half, but Lorusso charged out and denied a breakaway chance.
Adding on to the 2-0 lead, sophomore
Rebecca Sartorio drilled a goal into the corner of the net, after several close chances earlier in the game.
With an already commanding lead Sousa capped off an incredible performance, earning herself a hat-trick and giving her Lions a 4-0 lead.
Late in the game, PSU Harrisburg finally put themselves on the board as senior
Kara Hoy scored on a headball.
Despite the late goal the Albright lead was insurmountable, giving them the 4-1 victory.
With tonight's win, the Lions improved their record to 2-2 on the season. Their next game will be Tuesday the 17th against DeSales University.
