Box Score
The Albright College women's tennis team had never beaten Division Two Kutztown University in team history, until today.
Traveling to their neighbor school, Albright approached the Kutztown home courts with anticipation of the tough match they knew they would be facing.
As doubles pairs played the first points, it showed that Albright was prepared to give the D2 Kutztown team a challenge.
At first doubles,
Victoria Foanio and
Alyssa Sell took the court and played each point rigorously to defeat their opponents 8-2.
Brooke Ronney and
Melissa Carberry gave Albright the lead with a game score of 2-1 by defeating Kutztown's second doubles in a long, sturdy set and clinching the win with an 8-6 scoreline.
All the way through Albright's singles lineup, player one to six did their part to bring Albright to victory.
At first singles Foanio defeated her Kutztown opponent,
Hannah Pipkins, after their usual extensive three-set match, with a final score of 5-7, 6-1 and a tiebreaker score of 10-6.
Ronney, at second singles, played great to win two sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-1.
Sell played a very lengthy two sets but won the first 7-5, and then went on to sweep her opponent 6-0 in the second set.
Carberry also pulled through to gain a win for Albright in the third spot, playing an outstanding two sets- both with final scores of 6-2.
Erin Sullivan added a point for the Lions at sixth singles (6-4, 6-3).
Although a special game for Albright as a team, Foanio also had an exceptional day herself and even made school history individually.
Her singles victory today at Kutztown marks the 104th win of her career. That breaks the Albright record for most career wins, which was actually held by the Lions' current coach,
Jeremy Speicher.
