Box Score
Despite a huge statistical advantage, the Albright College women's soccer team needed a second half goal from
Erin Hand to defeat Delaware Valley 1-0 on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.
The Lions held a 26-2 advantage in shots, and 16-1 in corners, but only scored on Hand's 54th-minute breakaway.
After a fumbled cross early in the second half, Lion freshman
Rachel Snyder hit the post. DVC nearly caught Albright sleeping, but goalie
Alexis Lorusso came off her line to make an outstanding breakaway save on
Elisha Taney.
The Lions woke up and a minute later, they had the lead. Hand got through on the right side and slipped a ball inside the far post for the contest's only strike.
Freshman
Emily Sousa was through later in the second half, but Delaware Valley goalie
Julie Burnell got a fingertip to the shot. Freshman
Megan O'Brien cuts past her defender, with Burnell making another breakaway save.
Sousa got around the left back eight minutes into the game, but her cross was knocked out for a corner. Hand later played
Rebecca Sartorio in but Burnell made a great save to keep the game scoreless.
Hand then crossed to Sousa in front of goal, with the Aggies' defense clearing the dangerous ball away.
Natalie Wilson redirected
Dylan Shipe's cross but Burnell was there again for the stop.
Burnell couldn't hold the cross on a corner with a minute left in the first half, and the Aggie defense cleared the ball off the line with Snyder trying to force it home.
The Lions improve to 4-3-1 and will travel to Goucher College on Wednesday.
