READING, Pa. -- Following a much-needed victory over FDU-Florham and a bye week, the Albright football team returns to Shirk Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 25) with a renewed purprose and confidence as it hosts King's in a Middle Atlantic Conference game scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The Lions halted a four-game losing streak with a 38-20 victory over FDU-Florham on Oct. 11 at Shirk Stadium, which was Albright's first MAC win of the season.
"We really needed that win going into the bye week," said head coach
John Marzka. "That win gave us momentum going into the bye week and a good week of practice gives us momentum heading into Saturday."
Albright returned to old-fashioned football to defeat the Devils as it recorded a season-high 236 yards on the ground. Sophomore
Danny Tighe led the way for the Lions with a career-high 143 yards and two touchdowns, while
Dwayne Randall added 77 yards rushing.
The Lions, who are currently 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the MAC, also received big plays from the special teams led by sophomore
Malik Gilmore. Gilmore blocked two punts and returned one for a touchdown and he also blocked an extra point helping Albright seal the victory.
Steve Barroso had 1.5 sacks on the afternoon and
Colton Ryan and
Donte Thomas each intercepted a pass sparking the Lions defense.
Albright will face a red-hot King's team as the Monarchs have won three straight entering Saturday. King's has reeled off victories against Lebanon Valley, Misericordia and FDU-Florham over the past four weeks and enter the game with a 3-3 overall record and a 3-2 mark in conference play.
Albright leads the alltime series with King's 11-5-1 and has won seven straight games against the Monarchs.
