* Scheduling Note: Due to rain, this match has been postponed to Wedneday at 3:30 p.m.The Albright College women's tennis team travels to Lebanon Valley today for the Commonwealth Conference semifinals, looking to overturn several matchups against the second-seeded Dutchmen.
The Lions have qualified for their second Commonwealth playoffs in three years, after also facing LVC on the road in 2012. That match ended 5-0 in favor of Lebanon Valley; the Lions lost 6-3 to the Dutchmen this spring after falling 7-2 in each of their past two regular season meetings.
Albright's advantage starts at the top with
Victoria Foanio, the three-time reigning Commonwealth Player of the Year. She will face
Amelia Capuano at first singles, after taking a 6-1, 6-4 decision this season.
At first doubles, Foanio and junior
Alyssa Sell will play Capuano and
Christie Graf. Foanio and Sell have defeated Capuano/Graf in two of their past three meetings, but did fall 9-7 to that pair in the 2012 Commonwealth semifinals.
Freshman
Brooke Ronney plays Graf at second singles while Sell faces
Mary Kate Lemon at third singles. LVC took both of those matchups in straight sets this season.
After playing at fifth singles down the stretch this spring, junior
Melissa Carberry moves back to fourth singles and will play against
Lori Noble. Carberry does have a 5-4 record this season in the fourth spot. Sophomore
Elizabeth Bengtsson faces
Nicole Kracum in the fifth spot.
Sophomore
Erin Sullivan takes on LVC's
Lauren Shanberg at sixth singles. Shanberg took a 6-3, 6-0 decision in this season's meeting.
Albright will want to take an advantage heading into singles play, and will be playing a different doubles lineup from their previous meeting with LVC. After winning nine of their last 10 matches at third doubles, Ronney and Sullivan will play in the second spot against Lemon/Kracum.
Carberry and
Christina Peacock (2-8 at second doubles) will play at third doubles against Noble and Shanberg.
Today's match will begin at 3:30 p.m. The winner will face the victor of Elizabethtown vs. Messiah in Saturday's conference championship.
