PREGAME NOTES
READING, Pa. -- The Albright College football team will open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday as it hosts Lycoming in a Middle Atlantic Conference contest at 1 p.m. in Shirk Stadium in the 64th Annual Pretzel Bowl.
Both teams enter the game ranked as Albright is ranked 23rd in the Bennett Rank poll and Lycoming is ranked 23rd in the D3football.com poll.
Each team also enters the game having won their season openers last week. Albright used a strong defensive showing to defeat Kean 25-14, while Lycoming scored 28 second-quarter points on its way to a 42-13 victory over Susquehanna.
Albright senior safety
Joe Magosin led the Lions in the victory over Kean. He intercepted three passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown, to anchor a defense that yielded only 244 yards of total offense. Magosin also had 10 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 1.5 tackles for loss. Junior
Colton Ryan added nine tackles and
Rich Kuhn added a sack and 3.0 tackles for loss.
Magosin was rewarded for his stellar play by being named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the ECAC Southeast Defensive Player of the Week and being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Junior quarterback
Ryan Wade threw for 71 yards and rushed for 50 yards including a 33-yard touchdown scamper in the first quarter.
Vinny Williams had four catches for 52 yards to pace the receiving corp.
All-American candidate
Daniel Sobolewski had a pair of field goals and averaged 39.9 yards on seven punts.
Senior Craig Needhammer led Lycoming to the victory over Susquehanna as he piled up 111 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns. Quarterback Tyler Jenny threw for 230 yards and one touchdown for the Warriors.
Lycoming leads the all-time series 35-17-2 and has won four straight contests against the Lions. Last year, Lycoming escaped with a 20-17 victory in overtime in Williamsport, Pa.
