READING, Pa. -- The Albright women's lacrosse team will host Stevenson in a pivotal early season Commonwealth Conference match on Saturday (March 28) at Wilson High School at 1 p.m.
The Lions are 7-2 overall with a 1-0 mark in the Commonwealth Conference after defeating Widener University 11-9 in the conference opener for both schools on Wednesday. Albright's seven victories equal the total put up by the 2013 squad after nine games. That team started 8-2 and finished with 10 wins the most in the three-year history of the program.
Defending Commonwealth champion Stevenson is 4-6 overall and have lost three in a row, after dropping its conference opener 11-10 to No.18 Messiah at home on Wednesday. Four of the Mustangs defeats have come against top 20 opponents.
A deep Albright offense is led by two juniors;
Amanda Smith in the midfield and
Erin Farrell at attack.
Smith is the team leader with 33 points on 28 goals and five assists, and tops the Lions with 32 ground balls, 43 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers.
Farrell, who scored six goals in the win at Widener, also has scored 28 goals, including becoming the third player to reach the 100-goal plateau at Albright, and has three assists for 31 points, while corralling 17 ground balls and is tied for second with 10 caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Danielle Carey has made the move up front from defense in 2014, and is third on the team with
25 points. She has scored 16 goals and also has nine assists.
Mariah Cullen leads the Lions with 10 assists to go with her 11 goals for 21 points, and is second on the team with 24 draw controls. Fellow sophomore
Jacqui Montague is fourth on the team with 15 goals and has an assist for 16 points.
Freshman
Sydney Nankervis has also reached double figures with 10 goals and has registered six assists to tie Montague with 16 points. Senior
Meghan Wilson, who is second on the team with 18 ground balls picked up and is tied for second with Farrell with 10 caused turnovers, has chipped in with 11 goals and three assists for a total of 14 points.
Junior
Emily Hutson has backstopped the Lions to the 7-2 start allowing 9.01 goals per game.
Kathryn Merrick leads Stevenson with 21 goals and has added five assists for a team leading 26 points. Olivia Monteiro paces the Mustangs with six assists and is second on the squad with 19 goals and 25 points. Tori Wagner has recorded 13 goals and two assists for 15 points.
Albright is 0-2 in the first two meetings between the schools.
