READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions Men's and Women's swimming teams hosted a dual meet on Saturday afternoon against Widener in the Natatorium. Freshman Bryce Schaffer won three individual events to help the Albright Lions men's swim team earna 164-98 win over Widener, while the women dropped their match by a score of 204-52.
Schaffer started his dominant day off with a win in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 56.10 and won the 200 backstroke with a 2:02.51 pace. He then won the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.62 to register his third win of the day.
Five different Lions topped the podium on the afternoon to help the Lion men to the dual meet win. Junior
Tyler Chamberlin, freshman Chris Laite, junior Connor Hassard, and junior
Brendan Mackey-Wood also all earned victories in their respective races. Chamberlin won two events on the day starting with a victory in the 100 yard breaststroke in which he tallied a time of 1:01.00. He then followed that up with a win in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.34.
Mackey-Wood also earned two victories on the day as well by finishing the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:31.94 and came back to win the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:02.74. Hassard won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.22 and Laite won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:06.50. The Lions also finished in first place in the 200 yard medley relay with Schaffer, junior
Jay Deschamps, sophomore
Maliq Williams, and Chamberlin taking the top honors with a time of 1:38.18.
The Widener women pulled a clean sweep of all the women's events on the day to earn the team win.
Albright returns to the pool on Saturday, November 4th, when it will travel to face Arcadia at 1 p.m.
