READING, Pa. – The Albright football team returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Misericordia for a 1 p.m. kickoff in the MAC opener for both teams. Albright earned a 38-35 victory in overtime against Salisbury on Friday night, and Misericordia fell at Merchant Marine, 56-35, on Saturday afternoon.
ABOUT MISERICORDIA
Misericordia did most of its damage against Merchant Marine through the air as quarterback Brandon Leap completed 27-of-40 passes for 426 yards and three touchdowns. All three of those touchdown passes went to receiver Josh Dieter. All told, Dieter finished with seven grabs for 142 yards and the three scores. He wasn't the team's leading receiver, however, as Isaiah Williams grabbed 10 passes for 174 yards. He had a long reception of 81 yards in the game.
Misericordia held a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter after the second of the three touchdown passes to Dieter, but Merchant Marine responded with 28 consecutive points to take control of the game.
LAST SEASON
Albright defeated Misericordia, 43-14, in the Lions' Senior Day game in November. Quarterback
Alec Vignola completed 90 percent of his passes in the game, connecting on 18-of-20 attempts. He threw four touchdown passes.
Vinny Williams had all four of the touchdown catches.
Grant Boehler led the defense with 12 tackles and a sack.
ALBRIGHT ON THE CUSP OF TOP 25
The Lions remain right on the edge of entering the D3Football.com Top 25 poll after receiving 24 votes following the team's win over Salisbury. The Lions are third in line in the Receiving Votes category following Wabash and Coe.
Delaware Valley moved up eight spots to No. 12 in the latest poll, and Stevenson dropped out of the poll after its loss to No. 11 Frostburg State. The Mustangs are still receiving votes.
IN THE AIR TO JORDAN
Sophomore receiver
Mike Jordan made just two receptions in Friday's game against Salisbury, but he made them both count. Each catch went for a touchdown, and both came at crucial moments. His first touchdown came with 15 seconds left in the first half to tie the score at 21. His second came early in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 28.
As a freshman in 2016, Jordan made just one grab for six yards. He looks well on his way to being a much larger contributor in his second season.
JACKSON, CORDERO TIE FOR TEAM HIGH
Malik Jackson and
Milton Cordero also contributed in the passing game. Each player made seven catches, tying for the team-high in receptions. Cordero made seven catches for 74 yards while Jackson opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 21-yard touchdown reception from fellow receiver
Kyle Dickerson on a trick play. Jackson finished with a team-best 78 yards receiving.
HARRIS-DORMAN EMERGES
Sophomore Trevan-Harris Dorman recorded four tackles as a freshman last year, and he doubled that output in the first game of the 2017 season. All eight of his tackles were solo, and that included his first career quarterback sack.
Harris-Dorman also made a splash play in the fourth quarter. He recovered a fumble and returned it 13 yards for a go-ahead touchdown with 10:52 to play.
