Women's Soccer to Battle Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth Semis

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's soccer team will travel to battle the Arcadia Knights in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Tournament semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.

Albright is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, while Arcadia is the No. 2 seed. This marks the first time since 2011 that the Lions have advanced to the MAC Commonwealth semis.

Tickets: The MAC mandates the prices for adults at $5, senior citizens at $4, Students (with valid ID) and children $2, and for children under 6 with an adult are free. All tickets can be purchased at the gate.  

Live Coverage: The Arcadia sports information office will provide live video and live stats for the game. There will also be live updates provided throughout the game on the official twitter for Albright athletics (@AlbrightLions).

MAC Commonwealth Tournament: Albright is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and battles No. 2 seed Arcadia. Lebanon Valley is the No. 5 seed and will play top-seeded Messiah on Wednesday night after a 3-1 win over No. 4 Widener in the play-in game on Monday. Wednesday's winners will advance to the MAC Commonwealth championship game on Saturday at the home of the highest remaining seed.

Records: Albright finished the regular season with an 11-3-2 mark overall and a 5-2-1 record in conference play. The Lions went 3-0-1 in their final four games including a 5-2 win versus crosstown rival Alvernia in the season finale on Saturday. Arcadia went 11-4-3 (6-1-1 MACC) during the regular season, but closed things out with a 1-0 loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday and went 1-2-1 in their final four games including a scoreless draw with Messiah on Oct 24.

Scouting Albright: Albright and Arcadia rank tied for second in the MAC Commonwealth with 35 goals. Lions' sophomore forward Lauren Haley recorded a pair on Saturday vs. Alvernia and ranked second in the conference with 13 goals, while her five game-winning goals were tops in the league. Senior midfielder Kennedy Lutz sits fourth in the league with eight goals on the season and freshman Autumn Bieber has scored four goals in her last four games. Bieber also leads the team and ranks second in the MAC Commonwealth with nine assists on the year. In goal, senior Alexis Tunney compiled a 0.91 goals against average (GAA) in 14 starts and recorded four shutouts, sitting fourth in the conference in both categories.

Lions in the Playoffs: This marks the fifth straight season and seventh time in the last eight years that Albright has qualified for the MAC Commonwealth tournament. The Lions are in search of their first ever playoff win after dropping a 1-0 decision to Lebanon Valley in the play-in game a year ago.

Scouting Arcadia: Arcadia's 35 goals are tied for second in the conference with Albright. Junior forward Veronica Garcia leads the team with seven goals, while sophomore forward Erin Vander Plaat is second on the team with six. Sophomore goalie Brianna Williams is tied for the league lead with six shutouts and ranks second with a 0.69 GAA, having allowed just 12 goals on 156 total shots faced.

Knights in the Playoffs: The Knights are the defending MAC Commonwealth champions and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season before falling 1-0 in overtime to Carnegie Mellon. Arcadia has advanced to the league tournament for the sixth straight year and will look to notch their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Series: Dating back to 1995, Arcadia holds a 14-1-1 edge in the series including a 5-1 victory over the Lions in the 2014 MAC Commonwealth tournament. Albright's lone win in the series was a 2-1 win over the Knights on Oct. 10, 2012.

Last Meeting: Arcadia posted a 3-2 overtime victory on Oct. 10 as Erin Vander Plaat scored the game-winner with 2:09 remaining in the first overtime period. Lutz and fellow senior Erica Bross had the goals in the game for Albright including Lutz's PK that tied the game in the 82nd minute. The Knights held a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on target.

Head Coaches: Albright head coach Pat Stanco has posted a 127-113-26 mark in 14 seasons as the head coach of the Lions. He is the winningest coach in program history and has guided the Lions to three consecutive double-digit win seasons.
Head coach Rick Brownell is in his 16th season at the helm of the Knights and has posted a 199-89-33 mark which makes him the winningest coach in program history. Brownell led the Knights to a program record 18 wins in 2014 and has been named the MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year on two occasions (2009, 2016).

Up Next: The winner will advance to the MAC Commonwealth championship game that will be played at the home of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Nov. 3.
