Women's Soccer to Face #11 Messiah in Commonwealth Semifinals

READING, Pa. - The No. 4 seeded Albright women's soccer team will travel to the No. 1 seeded Messiah for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament semifinal round tomorrow, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
 
Tickets:  The MAC mandates the prices for adults at $5, senior citizens at $4, and children $2, and for children under 6 with an adult are free. All tickets can be purchased at the gate.

MAC Commonwealth Tournament: Albright is the No. 4 seed in the tournament and travels to the No. 1 seed Messiah for semifinals. The winner will advance to the championship and face the winner of the other conference semifinal matchup between the No. 3 seed York and the No. 2 seed Lebanon Valley on Saturday, Nov. 6. 
 
Records: Albright enters the semifinal round with a 10-7-2 overall record and 4-4 in regular season conference play. The Lions recently earned a 2-1 first round tournament win over Stevenson at Shirk Stadium on Tuesday. Messiah enters the conference tournament undefeated in MAC Commonwealth play and 14-2-1 overall. The Falcons closed the regular season with a 2-0 victory in non-conference action against Salisbury.
 
Scouting the Lions: Albright ranks fourth in the MAC Commonwealth in points per game with 4.17. Senior Autumn Bieber leads the Lions offense and ranks third in the conference with 21 points behind six goals and a conference-leading nine assists. Bieber also ranks second in the conference shots per game with 3.53 and shots on goal per game with 2.00. Senior Diza Hasanaj leads the team and ranks second in the conference in goals with eight. Junior Emily Serpico has scored twice in the past five games and ranks second on the team in goals with six. First-year goalkeeper McKenna LeVan paces the conference in shutouts with eight on the season. LeVan has also earned a pair of MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week honors. Seniors Gabrielle Rhoads and Carleigh Molinaro netted the two goals in the Lions first round win over Stevenson on Tuesday.
 
Lions in the Playoffs: This marks the seventh-straight season the Lions have appeared in playoffs, aside from the cancelled 2020 fall season due to COVID-19. Albright earned a thrilling 2-1 victory over Stevenson in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament on Tuesday.  
 
Scouting the Falcons: Messiah is currently ranked 11th in the nation and has not seen a conference loss this season, earning them the No. 1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. The Falcons pace the conference in shots with 18.35 per game, points with 6.41 per game, and goals with 2.588 per game. Messiah has also allowed the fewest goals in the conference with just eight on the season. Juniors Brianna Seip and Rachael Tirjan lead Messiah's offense with 16 points each behind seven goals and two assists. First-year Kristina Akselsen follows with four goals and one assist for nine points. Senior goalkeeper Lydia Watkins paces the conference in GAA with .481 and has posted seven shutouts on the season.
 
The Falcons in the Playoffs: Messiah has captured the last two MAC Commonwealth titles, aside from the cancelled 2020 season due to COVID-19, and have claimed four of the last five conference championships. The Falcons have also appeared in the last 20 MAC Commonwealth Tournament finals.
 
Series: Albright has never defeated Messiah in program history. The Lions closest opportunity to taking down the Falcons was in 2017 when the game ended in a double overtime scoreless draw. Messiah leads the series 14-0-1.
 
Last Meeting: Albright suffered a 2-0 loss to Messiah during the regular season on Oct. 6 at Shirk Stadium. Messiah held a commanding 27-4 shot advantage over Albright. The Lions were able to keep the Falcons scoreless until the 29th minute when they took a one goal lead. Messiah later solidified their win with a late goal in the 79th minute to claim the 2-0 victory.
 
Head Coaches: Pat Stanco has posted a 153-130-29 record in 17 seasons as the head coach of Albright. This is his seventh-straight MAC Commonwealth Tournament appearance for the Lions, excluding the 2020 season that was cancelled due to COVID-19, and his eleventh total tournament appearance at the helm of the women's soccer program.
 
Scott Frey, a Messiah alum, is in his 22nd season as the head coach of the women's soccer program. He has posted a remarkable 435-26-30 record and entered the season as the winningest active NCAA men's or women's soccer coach with ten or more years of experience. Frey's teams have earned six NCAA Division III National Championships, including the 2019 National Title. Frey's teams have advanced to 20 NCAA Tournaments and 13 Final Fours.
 
Up Next: The winner will advance to the championship of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament and will face either the No. 3 seeded York or the No. 2 seeded Lebanon Valley on Saturday, Nov. 6.
