Casey Lawrence Helps USA Baseball Secure Bronze Medal at Premier12 Tournament

Casey Lawrence was selected to the USA baseball team playing in the Premier12 Tournament over the past month. At the end of the month-long international tournament, Lawrence added some new hardware to his trophy case earning a bronze medal.

READING, Pa. – Albright baseball alum Casey Lawrence spent the last month traveling the globe playing in the Premier12 baseball tournament for team USA. The tournament wrapped up this past weekend with team USA and Lawrence earning a bronze medal.

Lawrence saved his best performance of the tournament for the bronze medal game. USA manager Mike Scioscia gave the ball to Lawrence starting the third-place game between the United States and Venezuela.

In the start, Lawrence was masterful through six innings of work shutting down the Venezuelan offense. Lawrence threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win on the mound. For the performance, Lawrence was named the Player of the Game.

Postgame, Lawrence was quoted saying, "All I wanted was to give the team a chance to win. I have a lot of history with some Venezuelan players, since I competed in their league for three years. They have a dangerous lineup. I tried to stick to our game plan and I want to thank Chris [Oakey]. He called a great game behind the plate and was able to slow the game down when we needed it."

Lawrence ended the tournament making two starts for the United States throwing a total of 9.1 innings with 10 strikeouts. For USA baseball it is the first time the team has earned a bronze medal having won silver in 2015 and a fourth-place finish in 2019.

Lawrence will head into the 2025 MLB season as a member of the Seattle Mariners organization. He signed a minor league deal with the Mariners on November 18.
