MADISON, N.J. – The Albright men's lacrosse team (1-1) crossed state lines on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference matchup against Drew University. The Rangers protected their home field this afternoon winning 22-9 over the Lions.
Today's game was originally scheduled for yesterday (Feb. 17) but was forced into postponed until today due to unfavorable weather. The Lions opened up their season last week at home with a 15-10 win over FDU-Florham.
Joost Van der Horst continues his hot start to his Albright career tallying three goals this afternoon. Van der Horst has scored back to back hattricks to start the season. The first-year player fired six shots on goal and collected three ground balls.
Nick Antonio was strong offensively for the Lions scoring three goals in today's game. Antonio fired five total shots while adding two ground balls to his overall stat line. The hattrick is the first this season for Antonio.
Jon Alavarez has scored in back to back games to begin the season scoring twice more today. Alavarez was a perfect two for two on shot attempts this afternoon. Alavarez added two ground balls in an all-around solid effort.
Drew University jumped out on Albright early in this one taking a 11-4 lead into halftime. The Rangers scored six goals in the opening period to create some distance between the Lions on the scoreboard.
Albright and Drew both scored four goals each in the third period with the Rangers leading 15-8 heading into the final frame. The Rangers added seven more goals over the last 15 minutes of play to win the game 22-9.
Ryan Houghtaling added a goal and an assist while
Jack Burke tallied an assist for the Lions while collecting four ground balls.
