Baseball Opens Weekend Series against Messiah

The Albright baseball team played in their second game in as many days this afternoon on the road at Messiah opening the weekend series with the Falcons. Messiah took today’s game 8-2.

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright College baseball team (3-10) jumped back into MAC Commonwealth play this afternoon on the road for a single nine inning game against Messiah (12-6, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth). The Falcons took today's game over Albright 8-2 in nine innings.

Nick Barton collected two hits this afternoon going 2-3 on the day with a walk. The multi hit game is the fourth of the year for Barton and the second multi hit game in the last three games played. Barton added an RBI and run scored to his day in the ninth inning marking the ninth RBI of the year for the senior catcher.

Lucas Williams took the mound earning the start for the Lions in game one of the three game series. Williams fared well throwing 5.1 innings of one run ball. Williams only allowed three hits while striking out five batters over his workload. Williams is up to 15 strikeouts on the season, leading the Albright pitching staff.

Messiah was clinging to a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Falcons were able to add runs in the seventh and eighth inning of the game to pull away from Albright.

Albright looked to make noise in the ninth inning loading the bases after scoring two runs in the frame. The Messiah pitching staff worked out of the ninth inning jam to secure the win.

Albright finished with eight hits by six different players. John O'Connor, Roman Berretta, Chris Gorla, Lucas Myford, Zack Augunas and Owen Morais.

Berretta collected the only extra base hit for the Lions in the game hitting a double. The double for Berretta was the third of the season tying him for the team lead in doubles. Berretta rounded out his day adding a run scored for the Lions.
 
Up Next:
Albright and Messiah will wrap up the series at Kelchner Field this Sunday, March 24 with a pair of seven inning games. The first game will get underway at 12 p.m. from Reading, Pa.
