BERWICK, Pa. – Baseball (2-0) officially began their 2025 season with two wins over Penn State Hazelton (0-2) on Sunday afternoon. Albright scored 25 runs in 15 innings on 27 hits.
Game 1: W, 11-1
The Lions wasted no time scoring their first runs of the season in the bottom of the first inning two take a 2-0 lead. Leading 3-1 heading into the 7
th inning, Albright would stretch their lead to 8-1 after plating five runs in the frame. Three more runs came across in the bottom of the 8
th inning to open the season with a 10-run victory.
Dominic Yeager took the ball for Albright to open the season and did not allow a run through four innings of work. Yeager struck out two while scattering five hits. The last seven batters faced by Yeager were all retired in order ending his efficient outing.
Nick Barton collected three hits, three RBIs and scored twice batting cleanup for the Lions.
Michael Avino earned the start in his first career collegiate game and proceeded to go 3-4 with an RBI.
Jack Gilmer,
Tommy Lewman,
Aidan Sturtevant and
Christian Eckstein all ended game one with two hits each. Lewman doubled twice while Sturtevant had two RBIs and Eckstein had one.
First year Lion
Max Frank started behind the plate and went 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Lucas Williams relived Yeager throwing four innings of one run ball to earn the win. Williams struck out four, allowing only three hits securing the game one win.
Game 2: W, 14-3
Albright again scored early and often plating 13 runs across the first three innings. A five run first was followed by a two run second and a six run third.
Deklyn Marks was inserted into the two hole in game two and nearly tied a program record in the start. Marks was 3-3 with two extra base hits including a three-run home run to left field. Marks finished with 6 RBIs finishing one RBI short of tying the program record. The six RBIs are a new career high to go along with the first home run of Mark's career.
Gilmer was swinging a hot bat all day, going for three more hits in game two. Gilmer finished the day with five hits and four runs.
Nick Barton was tough to get out all day, adding three more hits and three more RBIs in game two. Barton had six total RBIs across the two games scoring four runs on five hits.
Plyler Hunter and
Keyir Burwell both recorded their first career hits in game two while
John Pecoraro and
Ian VanBrookhoven tallied their first career RBIs in Albright uniforms.
John O'Connor started game two for Albright and did not allow a run in four innings. O'Connor struck out the side in the first inning on his way to six strikeouts overall. O'Connor faced 20 batters and did not allow an extra base hit to any of them.
