Women’s Tennis Tops Messiah 7-0 on Senior Day; Wins 22nd Straight Regular Season Match

The Albright women’s tennis team won their 22nd straight regular season match on Thursday afternoon beating Messiah 7-0 on Senior Day.

READING, Pa.  – Women's tennis (13-0, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) would not be denied their 22nd straight win on Thursday afternoon beating Messiah (7-8, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) on their home courts on Senior day. The 7-0 victory is the second straight shutout for the Lions over the Falcons.

Prior to the start of the match, the women's tennis team took the time to honor their two seniors in Alex Pancu and Isabella Tice.

Alex Pancu won her 58th career No. 1 singles match on Tuesday afternoon to get one step closer to the all-time No. 1 singles wins program record. With playoffs on the horizon and three matches left after today in the regular season, Pancu has an opportunity to become the winningest women's tennis player in school history. Pancu won 6-1, 7-5 in another straight sets win.

Michelle Timohty continues to roll right along picking up another win in No. 2 singles play. Timohty won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in another dazzling display from the junior Lion.

Allison Horick competed in her usual No. 3 singles position this afternoon. Horick, who still has yet to lose a match as a first-year, won today 7-6, 6-2.

Elicia Aponte earned a straight sets win in No. 4 singles taking her match 6-4, 6-3. Aponte has won her last four matches all coming in straight sets.

Alaina Smith marked the fifth singles matches that was won by Albright in straight sets. Smith won easily displaying strong skill throughout taking the match 6-4, 6-1.

Saba Soroush was locked up in a back and forth battle in No. 6 singles. Soroush took the first set 6-2 and would the drop the second set 3-6. The sophomore would not be denied the victory as she won 10-5 in the third set tiebreak to win the match.

Doubles play was more of the same for the Lions proving why they have an unblemished record and are the team to beat in the MAC Commonwealth.

Pancu and Horick won 6-0 in No. 1 doubles, Timothy and Aponte won 6-1 in No. 2 doubles and rounding out the sweep for the Lions in No. 3 doubles was Smith and Soroush who won 6-4.
