READING, Pa. – For the second straight year, the Albright women's tennis team is Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth champions. The Lions won their second straight title this afternoon beating Messiah 4-0. Albright will now await to see where and who they will be playing in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships.
Elicia Aponte was named 2025 MAC Commonwealth women's tennis tournament MVP.
Albright was the best team in the conference all season long completing the regular season at a perfect 15-0 and an unblemished mark in Commonwealth play at 5-0. The playoffs were no different for the Lions as the team did not drop a single court, ending the 2025 Commonwealth Championships outscoring their opponents 8-0.
The 2024-25 season saw the Lions outscore their opponents 94-9. In conference play alone, Albright outscored their opponents 33-1. With the win today the Lions win streak is now up 17 straight matches.
Head women's tennis coach
Miranda Brown was hired in January of 2021. Since then, coach Brown has led the women's side to a 53-16 record (including the postseason), an undefeated regular season, back-to-back MAC Commonwealth Championships and now two NCAA tournament appearances.
Doubles were first up this afternoon. The Lions won two of the three doubles matches to earn the first team point of the afternoon. In No. 1 doubles,
Alex Pancu and
Allison Horick controlled play on their way to a 6-2 win.
Michelle Timothy and
Elicia Aponte took care of the rest in No. 2 doubles winning 6-4.
Aponte was named MVP for her outstanding play in the 2025 championships. This afternoon, Aponte was the first court done winning with relative ease. Aponte made quick work of her opponent winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
Allison Horick remained undefeated with another straight sets win today. Horick was strong throughout her match winning 6-2, 6-4. In her first MAC Commonwealth tournament, Aponte went a perfect 2-0 to improve to 16-0 on the season.
Michelle Timothy was the fourth and final match to finish this afternoon. Timothy's match gave the Lions their fourth and final point to officially repeat as champions. Timothy won 6-3, 7-5 to send Albright to the NCAA tournament.
Alaina Smith,
Saba Soroush and
Alex Pancu did not finish their matches this afternoon but were well on their way to winning. When play was stopped due to Albright being the first to four points, Smith was winning 6-3, 5-4 Soroush was winning 6-3 in the second set after dropping the first and Pancu had the early lead in set number three of her match.

Albright will learn where they are headed for the first round of the 2025 Women's Tennis NCAA Championships early next week. The location, opponent and time of the match are yet to be determined for the first round of the NCAA tournament.
