READING, Pa. – Women's tennis is set for the 2025 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships after winning back-to-back MAC Commonwealth titles this past weekend. The Lions were drawn into the Middlebury region and will play SUNY New Paltz in the first round on Friday, May 9 at 9:00 a.m.

About Albright:
The Lions enter the NCAA tournament at a perfect 17-0 on the season. Albright is the only team in the field that has not lost a match this season. Throughout the 2024-25 season, Albright outscored their opponents 102-9 overall and 41-1 in MAC Commonwealth play including the postseason.
Elicia Aponte was named 2025 MAC Commonwealth Women's Tennis Tournament MVP.
Yesterday, women's tennis placed six individuals on the All-Conference teams including two players of the year.
Alex Pancu was named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season earning the honor each and every year Pancu dawned an Albright uniform.
Allison Horick was named MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year after completing the regular and post season with a 16-0 record. Of the 16 wins, 14 of them were won in straight sets.

Michelle Timothy all earned First Team honors, Aponte and
Alaina Smith were named Second Team All-Conference and
Saba Soroush earned Honorable Mention honors.
This year marks the second straight year the Lions will be appearing in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Albright was placed in the Johns Hopkins regional against University of Texas-Dallas. Despite losing to the Comets, the Lions gained valuable experience that can be used heading into play this weekend.
About SUNY New Paltz:
The SUNY New Paltz Hawks enter the tournament with a 12-7 overall and record a record of 5-0 in conference play out of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). New Paltz won their conference tournament for the third consecutive season in 2025 and will be making their 11
th appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings New Paltz was ranked #60 in the country. The ranking marks the highest New Paltz has been ranked all season long.
The Hawks No. 1 player is Justine Stanejko. Stanejko has a record of 15-8 and is a two time SUNYAC All-Conference player. New Paltz's No. 2 player Sydney Sladicka is in her first-year with the Hawks and owns a record of 13-11. Rounding out the top three for New Paltz is Isabel van der Veen who holds a record of 8-1 and is also the captain of the team.
Pancu, Timothy and Horick are the top three for the Lions and are all comparable players in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive first round match.
