READING, Pa. – Men's Lacrosse (0-2) remained at home to host the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy (1-2). The game was moved to Shirk Stadium after originally being scheduled as a road match. Both teams found their fair share of momentum swings with the visiting Griffins ultimately winning 19-8.
After the Griffins seized momentum early,
Nick Antonio got the Lions going and scored the team's first three goals. Antonio is off to a fast start with seven points in the first two games this season.
Semaj Moyd and
Aidan Graczyk also contributed to some early Lions goals to cut the Griffins early lead to as low as one (7-6) with a little over five minutes to go in the opening half. Graczyk was one of three Lions to end the day with three points.
Halftime saw Gwynedd Mercy lead 11-6 after their high-powered offense closed out the first half strong.
Derek Hanson recorded three total points in addition to a pair of assists.
Justin Moroney also found himself involved in the passing game with assist of his own.
As a team the Lions put together a physical defensive effort which led to 14 total turnovers by the Griffins.
Nate Howe put on a defensive clinic with three caused turnovers in addition to five ground balls recovered.
RJ Ellerbee, and
Brandon Jones were also both heavily involved on defense and each contributed multiple ground ball recoveries.
