READING, Pa. –
Matt Chalupa has been named the 15
th all-time head coach of the Albright men's basketball program. Chalupa spent eight years as
Rick Ferry's top assistant before being elevated to head coach.
On March 16
Rick Ferry announced he is stepping down after 25 seasons as the men's basketball head coach. Ferry will remain as Albright College's Athletic Director. The full release on coach Ferry can be found

Rick Ferry. "I am proud of what he has accomplished and look forward to his work leading Albright Basketball."
Coach Chalupa is no stranger to Albright spending the last eight years as
Rick Ferry's top assistant coach. Chalupa joined the Lions prior to the 2018-2019 season. Over that time Chalupa has been instrumental in the team's success.
13 different Lions received All-Conference honors under the guidance of Chalupa including seeing three Lions named Conference Players of the Year. Sam Majekodunmi '21,
Eric Chamberlain '25 and
Qadir Mitchell '26 all were 1000-point scorers under Chalupa.
Since Chalupa joined the staff in 2018-2019 the team has won 95 games. Additionally, Chalupa helped guide the team to six MAC Commonwealth playoff appearances including the Commonwealth crown in the 2020-2021 season.

Prior to coming to Albright Chalupa spent time with Mount Saint Mary College and with the Reno Big Horns of the NBA G-League as an assistant coach. With the Big Horns Chalupa helped the team to a 34-16 record during the 2015-2016 season which culminated in a division championship.
Chalupa is a graduate of Grinnell College while also being a member of the men's basketball team. At Grinnell Chalupa was a team captain, three-time Academic All-Conference recipient and four-year letter winner.
Chalupa begins his new duties immediately as the Lions head coach. The 2026-2027 season will begin in early November.
