CARLISLE, Pa. - Still looking to end their season on a positive note the Lady Lions traveled to Dickinson College Thursday afternoon to face the Red Devils in a non-conference doubleheader.
The Lions who ended the afternoon with a split, took a 4-1 victory from Dickinson in game. The host Red Devils prevented the sweep in the nightcap defeating Albright by the score of 7-0. With Thursday's split Albright improved to 4-26 on the season while Dickinson's record now stands at 12-11 on the year.
In the opener sophomore
Dana Parolari (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) picked up her second win of the season after allowing just one run on eight hits. The righty also managed to fan two Red Devil batters and did not surrender a walk in all seven innings.
Sophomore
Olivia Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) was one of the driving forces at the plate in the 4-1 victory. The Mohrsville, Pa. native went 2-for-4 on the day and scored a pair of runs. Also having a solid afternoon was freshman
Becky Crandall (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name). Crandall went 2-for-2 in seven innings of action and recorded one RBI and one run.
Albright got on the board early in game one of the non-conference doubleheader. Following a two run first inning, the red and white made it 3-0 in the fourth. Their fourth and final run of the day came in the fifth on an RBI double from Crandall. Dickinson's lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the seventh on a single, which scored Jen Welsh.
Moving into the second game of the afternoon, Albright was held to just three hits total in the 7-0 loss. Recording hits for the Lions in the nightcap were
Melanie Chapman (Suffield, CT/Suffield),
Haley Todd (Felton, DE/Lake Forest), and
Megan Keohane (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove).
Unlike the first game, the Red Devils offense came alive earning a total of 10 hits. Catcher Kyrie Budnik led her team with a 3-for-4 showing, which included two runs and two RBI's.
Sophomore
Mary Dwyer (Jacobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) threw every inning for the red and white and did not allow a single walk in her 14th appearance of the season.
Dickinson was able to put at least one run on the scoreboard in every inning except the third. Albright tried to answer back, but was quieted by pitcher Alex Brody who tallied four strikeouts and two walks.
Softball returns to action this Saturday when they host Widener University in a conference doubleheader at the Albright Softball Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
