Lions Earn Conference Win over Pride

Box Score

CHESTER, PA – Albright (12-2/3-1 CC) was able to go on the road Wednesday evening and bounce back from their first conference loss of the season by defeating the Pride of Widener University (8-6/1-3 CC) by a score of 75-63.

The top two scorers for Albright were again the duo of #Matt Ashcroft# and #Zac Shaeffer#. Ashcroft, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, lead all Lions with 15 points.

Shaeffer added several free throws in the waning minutes to increase his point total to 12 on the evening, and also lead the red and white with five assists.

A trio of Lions contributed to the top two scorers by each scoring nine points apiece. #Justin Plummer# paired his nine with eleven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals, for an all around effort on the low block.

#Jeff Sparrow# also scored nine points on three buckets from behind the arc, the latter right before halftime to give the Lions a 15 point lead at the break.

Rounding out the threesome was #Adam Van Zelst# who put together a solid effort at the helm by adding four assists and two steals to his nine points.

Two Widener players lead all scorers in the contest with 17. Jack Brennan (7-11) and Onyi Ezeala (5-7) shot high percentages in leading their team offensively for the evening. All-Conference point guard Bobby Edmunds added 16 of his own with 6 assists to lead the Pride attack that came up short against the Lions on this night.

The Lions defense was able to make shooting a difficulty for Widener by forcing them to only 20% from 3-point range. The red and white made seven 3-point baskets in the first half, proving to be the difference in the first 20 minutes.

However, unlike last Saturday's contest against Lycoming, the Lions won the turnover battle and also had the higher free-throw percentage in the game. Shooting 72% on the evening, much improved from the difficulties the red and white had against the Warriors, proved to be the difference in the final minutes of tonight's game.

The Lions next game will be this Saturday at the Bollman Center against the Elizabethtown Blue Jays at 4 p.m. This weekend will be the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game hosted by Albright College.
