Women's Basketball Falls to Widener, 62-48

CHESTER, Pa. – Led by Lil Carney's career-high 26 points the Pride of Widener University (7-8/3-1 Commonwealth) handed Women's Basketball (4-9/0-4 Commonwealth) their fourth conference loss of the season with a 62-48 decision Wednesday evening.

From the floor, Carney was 8-for-21 with two 3-point baskets, and was 8-for-9 at the free throw line. She also finished second on the team in rebounding with eight boards alongside Vanessa Hejnas. Casey Pritz was the Pride's top rebounder with 10 boards and also added two blocks and six points.

Sophomore Becca Pollack led the red and white with 12 points on the night as was the team's only double-figure scorer. The 5'10' forward also led Albright with eight boards. Mallory Olsheski evened her teammate in the rebounding column with eight boards as well. It also marked the eighth time this season that Olsheski has led the Lady Lions in rebounding.

Jenny Knoebel was second on the team in scoring with nine points in Wednesday's conference loss. From the field the sophomore was 2-for-5 with one 3-point basket. She was also 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

Through the first 20 minutes of play, the Lady Lions were never able to take control of the scoreboard, but managed to keep it close. They tied the Pride a total of four times, but it was Widener who closed out the first half with a four point lead.

After keeping it close through the first three minutes of the second half, Widener exploded on the scoreboard with a huge 17-3 run. By the 12 minute mark, the host Pride led the red and white 45-28. Widener would continue to hold a substantial lead after the midway point and take the conference win.

Women's Basketball returns to action this Saturday when they return to the Bollman Center for a 2 p.m. conference game against Elizabethtown College.
