Box Score
GLENSIDE, Pa. – With a team-high 20-points from junior
Jessica McGinness and a 20-4 run to end the first half the Lady Lions (6-9/2-4 CC) earned their second straight conference win by defeating Arcadia University (4-11/0-6 CC) by the final score of 75-52 Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.
Albright as a whole put together a solid team performance on both sides of the ball. Combined the red and white tallied nine steals and three blocks and forced a total of 18 Arcadia turnovers. From the field the Lady Lions shot 49.1% (28-for-57) on the night. At the free throw line they converted over 65% of their chances to finish the night 17-of-26. On the glass Albright outrebounded the host Knights 48-39.
McGinness' team leading performance marked the third time this season that the junior has recorded 20 or more points. Prior to Wednesday's win McGinness recorded two 21 point games which is a season high for the junior. Her career best still stands at 29 points which she achieved in only her fifth game ever as a member of the Women's Basketball program.
From the field the Norristown native was 7-for-11 and recorded one of only two Lady Lion 3-point baskets on the night. At the line McGinness was a perfect 5-for-5 and tallied four assists as well on offense.
Having probably one of her biggest games was senior
Amanda Medoro, who came off the bench to record eight points and finished second on the team in rebounding with six boards. Also leading the Lions on the glass was
Jalene Warker who had six boards of her own, and sophomore
Gina Zantopoulos who led the Lady Lions with seven.
Arcadia's top performers were Jackie Law and Kim Milligan. The duo combined for 42 points respectively, with Law leading the contest in rebounding with 11 boards. Law also tallied the night's only double-double with her 19 point performance.
Through the first 12 minutes of the contest Albright had their hands full with a very hungry Arcadia team. However at around the six minute mark the Lady Lions took off on the scoreboard with their very lopsided 20-4 run to take a 33-19 lead at the half.
In the second-half Albright weathered an early Arcadia comeback that brought the Knights to within eight points, before the Lady Lions regained their composure. From there the momentum of the contest favored the red and white greatly as they eventually jumped out to a 20 point lead with about six minutes left to play.
They would eventually extend their lead to a game high 29 points before walking way with the 75-52 win.
Women's Basketball will host Lebanon Valley College this Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Bollman Center. The Dutchmen currently hold sole possession of first place in the conference standings after upsetting Messiah College Wednesday evening by the final score of 58-42 in Annville.
