Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Matt Ashcroft scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Albright Lions (16-2/7-1 CC) to an 84-80 victory over the Lycoming Warriors (16-3/6-2 CC) Saturday afternoon at Lamade Gymnasium.
The win moves the red and white into sole possession of first place in the Commonwealth Conference, as well as avenging an earlier loss to the Warriors.
Ashcroft shot of 8-for-14 from the field, also making 4 of 5 free throws to lead the Lion offense on Saturday. The sharpshooting junior filled up other categories in the stat sheet by totaling five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Zac Shaeffer again scored in double digits, nailing several huge free throws to seal the victory for the Lions in the waning minutes of the game. Shaeffer finished with 17 points and made two shots from behind the arc and was an efficient 9-11 from the free throw line.
Derek Hall was the final Albright player to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points and one rebound shy of a double-double.
Distributing the ball to the scorers was yet again floor general,
Adam Van Zelst, who contributed seven assists to only two turnovers.
Eric Anthony finished with 20 points in his efforts to keep Lycoming in the game. Will Kelly (16), Jerald Williams (14), and Ihsaan Davis (10) joined Anthony in double figures for the Warriors, but their efforts would come up just short on the afternoon.
The Lions dominated the boards in this contest by a total of 44-37 to help limit second chances and garner a few of their own.
The deciding factor in the game, however, would be Albright's ability to turn Lycoming turnovers into points. The Lions used 15 Warrior turnovers to generate 22 points, whereas the Warriors were only able to turn 13 turnovers into seven points.
The Lions return to action Wednesday at the Bollman Center when they continue their conference slate by taking on the Pride of Widener University. Tip-off for that game will be at 8 p.m.
