GLENSIDE, Pa. – For the Lady Lions (6-8/1-1 CC) their first conference win of the season did not have to wait until the final game of the year, as they split with host Arcadia University (6-5/1-1 CC) Wednesday afternoon. After dropping a 5-0 decision in game, the Lady Lions bounced back in the nightcap to earn a 6-4 conference win.
In the opener, six Lady Lions each produced a hit in the 5-0 loss. Junior righty
Dana Parolari went all six innings and allowed the five runs on 10 hits. She also managed four strikeouts and walked just one batter in the second loss of her season.
Arcadia put their first run of the day on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the third inning. They then made it a three run game in the fifth, and then secured the 5-0 victory in the bottom half of the sixth to claim their first conference win of the year.
The nightcap was a much different match-up for the two conference rivals as the Lady Lions led took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Scoring the go ahead runs were
Kelli Zimmerman and
Brandy Lagomarsino.
Zimmerman who recently became the single game and career stolen bases leader at Albright went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the night cap. Her lone hit, a double in the fourth inning, marked her 98th career hit at Albright. For Lagomarsino she went 2-for-4 in game two with two runs scored.
In the circle
Alex Tragno went the final four innings and earned her first win of the season, having surrendered two runs on five hits. She also fanned one batter and did not walk any Knights' hitters. Getting the start was
Allie Frank who went the first three innings of the nightcap. In that time Frank allowed two runs on three hits and retired one batter.
After the two runs in the top half of the first, Arcadia responded right back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first frame. The Knights then evened the score at 2-2 in the third, and then jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the fourth.
However, it was the Lady Lions that would have the final word as they put four runs in the sixth to earn the 6-4 conference win.
Softball will make their home debut this Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley College at 1 p.m. on the Albright Softball Field.
