MAHWAH, N.J. - It was another tough afternoon for the Lady Lions as, they dropped a pair of close non-conference contests to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College. Ramapo walked managed squeeze out a 2-0 and 2-1 victory of the red and white Thursday afternoon at the Ramapo Athletic Center.
On the day, Albright combined for nine hits in the non-conference doubleheader. The host Roadrunners posted 15 hits, but were held by solid defense and pitching to the four runs respectively.
In game one, the Lady Lions' bats were neutralized by the solid pitching of Deanna Giordano. The junior right did not surrender a walk all afternoon and fanned five Lady Lions to pick up her ninth win of the season.
Of the four hits recorded in game one
Brandy Lagomarsino's lone single in the sixth was the second time the freshman reached base. In her second at-bat, Lagomarsino reached on an error by the third baseman to finish out game one 1-for-3 at the plate.
The game one loss was handed
Jaime Weckesser who through six innings of work allowed the two runs on eight hits, but tallied four strikeouts as well.
Game two of the doubleheader was a much different story as Albright tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Scoring the then game-tying run was Lagomarsino on a heads up play, which caught the Roadrunners completely off-guard.
Causing the distraction, which allowed Lagomarsino to score, was
Kiersten Gilfoy who stole second after getting on base on a single to left field.
Knotted up at 1-1, Albright nearly scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. After getting the first out of the inning, Weckesser drove the ball to right field. She then advanced to second on a bunt to the third baseman by
Olivia Miller.
Chapman managed to out-run the third baseman's throw which put a pair of runners on base for Albright. Both Miller and Weckesser would move into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt by
Melanie Chapman.
Unfortunately, the Roadrunners would get the third and final out to keep the game tied at 1-1. Now in the bottom half of the seventh, Ramapo would get a lead off single by Katie Donnelly.
After giving up the hit, the Lady Lions would get back-to-back outs. With Donnelly sitting on second base, Schirippia would come to plate and with a single to center field, gave Donnelly the push she needed to score the game-winning run.
Earning the win for the Roadrunners was Lyndsay Buehler, while
Dana Parolari was handed the tough loss.
Softball returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Lycoming College for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
