Game 2 Box Score

READING, Pa. - In their final doubleheader of the 2010 season, the Lady Lions (7-27/2-12 CC) dropped back-to-back games to Commonwealth Conference opponent Widener University (26-13/8-6 CC) by the final scores of 3-2 and 10-1 in six innings Thursday afternoon at the Albright College Softball Field.

Thursday's contests also marked the final two games in the four-year careers of Kelli Zimmerman and Gloria Alfonsi. Zimmerman will also leave Albright as the single game and all-time career stolen bases leader with seven and 43. She also currently sits tied for the most steals in a season with 22 this season.

Game one of the doubleheader was a close-one for the red and white. After falling into a 1-0 hole in the first inning, the Lady Lions tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take the lead.

Driving in one of the two runs scored was Olivia Miller on a double to left field. Miller would count as the second Albright run scored in the inning, but it would come on an error by the third baseman.

After two scoreless innings, the Pride put up two runs of their own in the top half of the seventh to retake the lead. Needing just one run to tie the game, the Lady Lions grabbed their bats. Unfortunately, Widener pitcher Kim Dougherty retired the side in order to secure the game one victory for her team.

Dougherty went all seven innings in the circle and surrendered the two runs on four hits. She also fanned five batters and walked two others. For the red and white, Jaime Weckesser had another strong performance despite the loss. Through her seven innings of work, the sophomore retired six batters and gave-up eight hits.

Along with Miller's double, Kiersten Gilfoy also went deep with a double of her own in the fourth. The freshman catcher went 2-for-4 in the opener with one run scored.

In the nightcap, the Pride jumped all over the red and white in the top of the third inning scoring five unanswered runs. They then extended their lead to six in the fourth, and then 10 in the sixth.

Albright's lone run of game-two came in the form of a Weckesser solo home run over the left field wall. The sophomore ended the contest 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

A total of three pitchers stepped in the circle for the Lady Lions, with junior Dana Parolari getting the loss. Widener's Kelsey Shultz picked up the win for the Pride, her ninth of the year.
