Baseball Concludes 2010 Season at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – In their regular season finale, the Lions (9-27/2-14 CC)dropped their final two games at Widener University (21-10/14-4 CC) Saturday afternoon by the final scores of 9-6 and 8-2 at the Widener University Baseball Field. With the two wins, the Pride clinched the Commonwealth Conference regular-season title, the program's first since 1978.

The Lions looked to close out their season on a positive note fell into a deep six-run hole after the first three innings in game one. However the red and white cut the Pride's lead in half in the top of the third. Widener tacked on three more runs in the fifth to retake their six-run lead.

Albright then scored one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to cut Widener's lead down to three for the second time. Unfortunately, the Lions were unable to score those crucial runs in the seventh, as Widener held on to take the victory.

In the nightcap, the Lions jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Widener answered right back in the bottom half of the same frame to take a 2-1 lead. The Pride then extended their lead to 3-1 in the third.

After scoring their final run in the top of the fifth, Widener broke the game wide open in the bottom half of the same inning, scoring five unanswered runs.

On the day, Albright recorded a combined 15 hits in the conference doubleheader. In game one, both Jojo Fischer and Jon Raymond went 2-for-3 at the plate, with Fischer also recording an RBI and a run scored. Raymond also recorded a run scored in the opener.

To close out the afternoon Tommy Canuso ended his sophomore season with a pair of hits. In only his second season with the Lions, Canuso was one of the Lions top hitters throughout the year.

On the hill, Matt Rehrig was handed the loss after surrendering nine runs on seven hits through 4 1/3 innings in game one. Getting the loss in the nightcap was freshman Kevin O'Neill who gave up three runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings.
