GRANTHAM, Pa. – Led by Jess Rhoads perfect game and Jocelyn Hickey's complete game, the #8 Falcons of Messiah College (12-2/2-0 Commonwealth) defeated softball (6-8/0-2 Commonwalth) by the final scores of 10-0 in five innings and 3-1 Tuesday afternoon in the conference doubleheader at Starry Field.
Rhoads, who has been the foundation since joining the Falcons roster two seasons ago faced and retired 15 Albright hitters in order to record her first perfect game of the year. Rhoads the former national player of the year retired a combined eight Lady Lions in the opener.
In the nightcap, the Lady Lions put together a solid performance as they combined for six hits. Driving in the lone Albright run was
Kiersten Gilfoy in the top of the 3rd inning, which at that time made a 2-1 ball game.
Messiah put up one run in each of the first three innings before their bats were silenced by
Alex Tragno. The junior righty allowed just five hits, while striking out one Falcon and walking six others.
Softball will look to bounce back this weekend when they host Lycoming College at 1 p.m. on the Albright Softball Field.
