Box Score
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – With a season high 19 hits, the Lions (3-11) ended their four-game skid with a huge 19-9 victory over non-conference opponent Muhlenberg College (3-15-1) Friday afternoon at Cedarcreek Field.
Jojo Fischer led the way for the Lions as he went 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Friday's 19-run performance marked the first since 2010 when the Lions defeated Knox College by the final score of 19-6. Their 19-hit afternoon was the most since April 18, 2008 when the Lions tallied 23 hits in the 18-1 thumping of Lebanon Valley College.
Needing just a double to hit for the cycle Fischer was red-hot at the plate. He got the afternoon off to a great start as he drove in the Lions first run of the day on an RBI triple. He then tacked on a single in fifth and ninth, but it was his three-run homer in the seventh that blew Friday's game wide-open.
Also having a day at the plate was
Pat Brady, who went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored and
Tom Canuso who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Nate Peiffer,
Justin Danser, and
Tom Dyer all recorded two hits in the win. Peiffer drove in two runs and was responsible for three of the Lions season high 19 runs.
On the hill, junior righty
Matt Rehrig picked-up his first win of the year after surrendering two runs, one of which was earned, through five innings of work. He went on to give-up six hits, while also striking out three batters.
For Muhlenberg, their bats were just as active as they combined for 11 hits in the loss. Nick Busillo was one of five players to record two hits in Friday's contest on his was to team-high two RBI.
A total of eight Muhlenberg pitchers stepped onto the hill, but no matter who they threw, the Lions offense could not be stopped. Sean Stipa was handed the loss after giving up four runs on four hits in his only inning of work.
Albright's four-run first inning was the just beginning as they quickly made it a 5-0 game through the first two frames. It quickly became a 10-0 game after the Lions put up another run in the fourth, and four more in the fifth. Muhlenberg finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth to make a 10-2 ball game.
Both teams tacked on four runs each in the seventh, but it was a five-run top of the ninth for Albright that secured Friday's win. Muhlenberg's final three runs all came in the bottom half of the ninth, but their late rally did not last long, as
Collin Hecker closed out Friday's contest with a groundout to third.
Baseball returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Rowan University for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
