READING, Pa. – Led by junior
Jaime Weckesser, softball (8-20/2-8 Commonwealth) was able to split with Arcadia University (17-7/4-4 Commonwealth) Sunday afternoon at the Albright Softball Field. In game one the red and white earned a 5-1 win, while in the nightcap it was the visiting Knights who earned a 9-1 win in five innings.
Weckesser went all seven innings for Albright to pick-up her fourth win of the year. In her only appearance, the junior righty gave-up just the one run, which was unearned, on eight hits. She surrendered just one walk and retired four batters.
At the plate the red and white combined for five hits, with
Melanie Chapman driving in the only run. The four other Albright runs were the result of heads-up base running or Arcadia errors. All five runs came in the bottom of the second. For the Knights they combined for eight hits in game one. Erin Wojcieszyn recorded two of those eight hits.
In the nightcap, Arcadia wasted little taking control of the contest scoring three-runs in the opening frame. Albright would respond in the bottom half of the first with an RBI single by Weckesser. After two scoreless innings, Arcadia put-up three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to earn the five-inning decision.
Allie Frank was handed the loss after going three complete innings, in which she gave up six runs on seven hits, while also walking two and striking out three other.
Alex Tragno closed out the final two frames and gave-up three runs on one hit. She also retired to batters as well.
Softball returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Penn State Berks for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
