READING, Pa. – The Albright women's tennis season came to a close with a 7-2 loss to conference opponent Lycoming College (5-6, 3-3 Commonwealth) Monday afternoon on the Albright Tennis Courts. With Monday's decision, the Lady Lions close out the year with a 0-12 record, 0-6 in the conference.
For freshman standout
Victoria Foanio, her 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles capped off her record setting season at 14 singles victories, which is a new program record. She also becomes the first player since 1999 to close out the year with a perfect 12-0 record at first singles. In doubles player, Foanio and
Desiree Owle combined for their fifth win of the year with an 8-2 decision over Sayumi Akashi and Rebecca Reynolds.
Monday's match could have went either way, with the Warriors earning a hard fought 8-5 win over Albright's
Nazma Ali and
Kelly Irwin. Irwin would play one of her best matches of the season at second singles. After dropping the first set 3-6, Irwin bounced back in the second to force a tie-breaker. Unfortunately it was Reynolds who earned the conference victory.
Owle also nearly pulled out second set comeback but was defeated in the end by the final of 6-0, 6-4.
With just freshmen and sophomores on this year's roster, the 2011-12 edition of the women's tennis looks to be an experienced and skilled group.
