Mustangs Run Past Softball in Non-Conference Doubleheader

Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

OWING MILLS, Md – Led by a tremendous offensive performance by Desirae Sullivan, the Mustangs of Stevenson University (22-17-1) defeated softball (9-25) by the scores of 9-3 and 8-6 in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at WeinbergFine Stadium.

In the two games, Sullivan recorded five hits, four RBIs and four runs scored.

In game one, it was all Stevenson throughout the first four innings as the Mustangs built a 7-0 lead. The home team also used a balanced attack as five different players recorded RBI hits.

The Lions got onto the board in the top of the fifth. Jackie Bohanan singled down the right field line and Olivia Miller doubled to left center to start the inning. With one out, both runners scored courtesy of a throwing error after Miriah Wilson grounded one back to the pitcher. Wilson would score on a passed ball with two away to cut the lead to 7-3. However, Albright wouldn't get any closer as the Mustangs added two more runs before capturing the game one victory.

Julianne Roper got the win in game one as she allowed just six hits and one earned run in a complete-game effort. Alex Tragno received the loss for Albright after tossing the first 3 1/3 innings before yielding to Allie Frank.

In the second game, Stevenson again would jump out to a large advantage. Sullivan provided the key hit with an RBI double in the first inning. With a 4-0 lead in the second, Lisa Bilski sent a two-run shot over the center field fence to increase the Mustang lead to six.

The Lady Lions put one across the plate in the away third. Melanie Chapman roped a triple to right center field that scored Wilson. Albright kept on coming in their next two at-bats. Following three consecutive singles that loaded the bases in the fourth, Miller singled up the middle to bring in one. In the fifth, Bohanan and Miller recorded back-to-back doubles with runners in scoring position that brought the Stevenson lead down to 7-6.

Nursing a one-run lead, Stevenson's Kristen Fassler homered to left field to begin the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Lions, however, retired the next three batters in order.

With Albright rallying, their hopes of a doubleheader split were dashed as the game was called after five innings due to lighting.

Roper earned her second win of the day in game two, while Jaime Weckesser was handed the loss.
Albright's lineup was led by the duo of Bohanan and Miller. Miller had three hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Bohanan also had three hits along with two runs scored and one RBI.

Softball returns to action for their final contest of the season when they host the Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday against Elizabethtown College. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
