Box Score
The Albright College women's basketball team led the entire way and fought off a late Knights rally as the Lions defeated host Arcadia, 71-64 in Commonwealth Conference action.
Junior
Kari Ludy was 8-of-13 from the field and scored 21 points- the highest total by a Lion this season. Sophomore
Meghan Boyle (15 points, 10 rebounds) and senior
Jenny Knoebel (11 points, 12 boards, six assists) both turned in double-doubles. Freshman
Amanda Tiritilli added 13 points.
Albright had to respond late in the game after Arcadia stormed to a 13-0 run that cut a 55-39 scoreline down to just three points. Knoebel finally stopped the bleeding, then fed Boyle for another basket that put the Lions ahead 59-52.
Angie Adams' three-pointer made it 61-57 but free throws from Tiritilli and Ludy helped the Lions fight the Knights off again, and Albright held on despite Arcadia getting back to within four once more, in the final minute.
The Lions had jumped all over their opposition, leading 18-2 after less than four and a half minutes. Knoebel found Boyle for the game's opening hoop before sinking a three-pointer herself, off an assist from Tiritilli.
That pattern stayed true as Tiritilli scored next, finishing a rare put-back to make it 7-0 Albright.
Victoria Roukas finally got the Knights on the board, but
Jessica Venturelli scored five straight points as the Lion onslaught continued.
Three-pointers on consecutive possessions from Tiritilli and Knoebel soon stretched the lead to 18-2. Arcadia broke the run, but Ludy answered immediately to put Albright ahead 20-4.
The Lions quickly cooled off and went 6:15 without a field goal, but Ludy scored consecutive baskets to keep the gap in double-digits. Albright led 35-22 at the half.
Arcadia got to within single-digits briefly, on a trey from Adams to make it 36-27. Ludy answered and was fouled, although she failed to complete the three-point play. Ludy missed another and-one chance with 14:42 to play but the field goal, her second in a row, put the Lions up 61-42.
Earlier, Tiritilli had drained another three, her third in the game's opening 23-plus minutes, after sinking five in the first half against Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
Roukas was 10-of-13 for 20 points and added nine rebounds, while Adams matched Ludy's game-high with 21 points. Albright freshman
Victoria Brito had the opportunity to play against her twin sister,
Veronica Brito, a rookie for Arcadia.
The Lions (5-13, 1-6) grab their first Commonwealth victory of the season. They will return home on Saturday to host Messiah at 2 PM.
