The Albright College women's basketball team heads to Glenside, Pa. and the awaiting Arcadia Knights for its fifth straight Commonwealth basketball contest. The Lions are looking to improve as they prepare to enter into the second half of their league schedule.
Despite a Commonwealth losing streak, the Lions are primed to get back on track. On paper the matchup looks promising and Albright is bolstered by its 61-49 victory over the Knights last season.
Albright College Lions (4-13, 0-6 Commonwealth)
Heading into the contest, senior guard
Jenny Knoebel continues to excel for the Lions. Knoebel is currently top-ten in the conference in scoring with 10.4 ppg. She is also a force defensively with 15 blocked shots and 23 steals, leading the Lions in both this season.
Knoebel, as well as
Jessica Venturelli and
Meghan Boyle, are the only Lions to have started every game this season and have posted a combined 494 points this year compared to 342 points from Arcadia's three leaders in starts.
Defensively, Boyle has been dominant this season and is leading the Commonwealth in both defensive and total rebounds for season (110, 152). On the other side of the court Venturelli has been solid, capitalizing on opponents' fouls and leading the team in free throws made (34) and free throw percentage (.756).
Freshman guard
Amanda Tiritilli (6.6 ppg) is coming off a strong last game against Lebanon Valley where she led the team with 17 points and posted a .750 field goal percentage, which is an individual player high for the Lions this season.
Arcadia University Knights (3-13, 0-6 Commonwealth)
The Arcadia University Knights are also 0-6 in the conference and come into the contest with a five game losing streak. Senior guard
Christine Taylor (12.8 ppg) has made all 16 starts so far this season, and 11 players in all have made appearances in the starting line-up.
Taylor is the Knights' leader in points scored, free throws made and rebounds, making her an obvious player to watch on both sides of the court. Joining Taylor are two underclassmen, freshman guard
Michaela Holleran (5.7 ppg) and sophomore forward
Jessica Campbell (2.9 ppg). The duo are the only two other players to appear in every game this season.
Holleran is shooting .411 from outside the 3-point line, which is a team best. Campbell leads the Knights in offensive rebounds this season with 31. Other players to watch are junior
Angie Adams (10.8 ppg), sophomore
Jenna Crothers (11.5 ppg)- who leads the Knights in field goals made, and freshman
Victoria Roukas (14.9ppg).
