Facing 2011 Commonwealth finalist Messiah, the Albright College volleyball team played several tough sets but was swept 3-0, Wednesday in Grantham, Pa.
The Lions fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 15-18), despite leading 11-10 in game two and being within 11-9 in the final set.
Junior
Christa Mantz had four kills and 11 digs, while senior
Casey McFadden added 10 digs. Junior
Morgan Heath dished out 10 assists.
Messiah setter
Jessica Geib had 44 assists and 14 digs.
Lauren Rees had a game-high 12 kills, and hit .435, while
Lindsay King (.615) added nine kills.
Mantz delivered a kill to tie the second set at 10-10, before the Lions took the lead on a kill by senior
Alyssa Hoogendoorn. Senior
Alexa Jones tied it again at 13-13, but Messiah then ran off four straight points and held on for the 25-22 win.
In the clinching third set,
Marisa Bartone's kill kept Albright within one early, and a King service error made it 11-9 Messiah. The Falcons again won four consecutive points however to pull away.
Albright falls to 4-8, 0-5, and will host Immaculata University on Thursday night in the Bollman Center.
