Casey McFadden eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark for her career as the Albright College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the MAC Crossover Tournament on Saturday.
Competing at Elizabethtown, the Lions beat Manhattanville 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-19), following a loss to Misericordia by a score of 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-6).
McFadden earned her 1000th dig late in the third set of the Misericordia match, as she totaled 44 for match. She would add 15 more in the sweep of Manhattanville.
Against the Valiants, senior
Alexa Jones had three service aces and 11 digs, while classmate
Alyssa Hoogendoorn had eight kills. Also contributing were juniors
Christa Mantz (nine kills) and
Morgan Heath (16 assists, 13 digs).
Albright jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set after consecutive kills from Hoogendoorn. The advantage stretched to double-digits at 19-9 after a Manhattanville attack error.
The Lions scored seven straight points early in the second set with Jones serving, leading 8-1 and never looking back.
Mantz had recorded 12 kills and 16 digs against the Cougars, while Heath had 23 assists and 13 digs. Hoogendoorn added nine kills and five blocks, while fellow senior
Erin Wentzel had a double-double (10 assists, 14 digs).
Albright led 2-1 in that match, following a victory in the third set. Down 17-16, the Lions went on a run with McFadden serving and scored six straight points (including a pair of blocks from Hoogendoorn).
Albright trailed by 10 in the fourth set but fought back to within two points before losing 25-22, and Misericordia ran away with the fifth and final game.
Albright is 5-10 and travels to Lebanon Valley on Tuesday night.
