Derek Hall was 12-of-17 from the field and scored a career-high 30 points as the Albright College men's basketball team defeated Lycoming 92-77, Wednesday in Williamsport, Pa.
Albright gets a big road win over a Lycoming team (16-4, 6-3) that is still in second place in the Commonwealth Conference standings. The Lions improve to 12-8, 3-6, and sit two games behind Alvernia and Widener for the final playoff spots, with a game remaining against each squad.
Hall also added a game-high eight rebounds and two blocks. Three other Lions scored in double-figures: Sophomore
Kyle Jordan (5-of-7, 17 points), junior
Cornell Mickens (6-of-8, 15 points) and sophomore
Sam Marrella (11 points, five assists).
Dave Singleton dished out seven assists in the victory.
Down by two early in the second half, Hall tied it up off a pass from Jordan and then canned a three on the next possession to put Albright ahead.
Layups by Singleton and
Pedro Perez quickly made it 51-44 and forced the Warriors to call timeout.
With 14 minutes to play,
Chris Foreman got Lycoming to within a point, at 53-52.
Reuel Moore's fast break bucket made it 64-54 as Albright seized a double-digit lead, and his lay-in soon pushed that run to 18-5 with nine minutes remaining.
There were six ties in a first half that ended with Albright clinging to a 42-40 lead. The Lions were up 7-5 early after two three-pointers from Marrella in span of less than two minutes.
After Foreman put the Warriors up by two with a three-pointer, the game was tied at 15 and 18 before another trey from Foreman kick-started a 7-0 Lyco run.
Lycoming would again lead by seven at 33-26, but the visiting Lions closed out the period on a 16-7 streak. Jordan tied the game at 38 with a three-point play and then scored again with 16 seconds left to give Albright a halftime lead, after Hall had canceled out Foreman's free throws.
Foreman was 6-of-10 form the field and totaled 17 points. Center
Mike Bradley added 14 points and eight boards. Two Warriors scored 10 points: freshman
Patrick Dougher and junior
Anthony Martin.
Albright will travel to Elizabethtown on Saturday.
