Box Score
The Albright College women's basketball played #16 Lebanon Valley College close for most of the first half before ultimately falling by a score of 74-48, Saturday in Annville, Pa.
Senior
Jenny Knoebel had 13 points, while freshman Tara Sabotchik added 12 points. Junior
Kari Ludy had eight points and four steals.
Just as they did in the Bollman Center earlier this year, the Lions started strongly against their nationally-ranked opponents.
Early on, Sabotchik's three-pointer from the left corner got the Lions on the board, and Ludy's long two rolled around the rim before dropping into keep Albright within a point at 6-5.
Knoebel's steal led to Ludy's hoop and a 7-6 Albright lead, which they would hold until the final nine minutes of the first half.
Sabotchik answered an LVC basket with a drive for two that put the Lions ahead 12-8, and a nice backdoor cut by Ludy soon made it 14-10 Albright.
The Dutchmen finally took the lead back on
Caitlin Bach's three-point play to put the hosts up 15-14. Bach was fouled twice more, making once each, and
Amanda Donia scored in transition off a steal to make it 19-14.
A hard drive by
Tierney Hiltz put Lebanon Valley up 21-14 and cap an 11-0 run, one that was finally broken by a Knoebel free throw.
Meghan Boyle's put back with 3:25 left in the half then ended a slump of 7:02 without an Albright field goal.
Boyle scored again on the next possession, and Sabotchik's steal led to a
Jessica Venturelli three from dead center that kept Albright within seven, at 30-23. However, a Lion turnover with 15 seconds remaining led to
Liz Borgia's basket, and Ludy's shot at the buzzer rolled off the rim.
The Lions kept battling after halftime; Knoebel swished a long three to make it 36-26, Boyle's put-back resulted in a 40-28 score, and another trey from Knoebel had Albright within 14. LVC ultimately pulled away however, and stretched its lead to 20 points on Hiltz' great pass over the top to Bach.
LVC celebrated its Senior Day, honoring
Caitlin Murphy and
Eryn Schultz. Bach had a game-high 14 points.
Albright falls to 5-18, 1-11 and will host Arcadia on Tuesday. The Dutchmen improve to 21-2, 12-0 and clinch the top seed in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.
