The Albright College baseball team won its 2012 season opener 9-4 at Wesley on Sunday, before dropping the second game 2-1 on a late sacrifice fly.
A pair of seniors earned starts on the mound, with
Matt Rehrig allowing one earned run in six innings to win the opener.
Tyler Storms threw five two-hit innings in the nightcap and had a no-decision.
In the opener,
Jon Raymond was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, and leadoff man
Nate Peiffer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Raymond's home run highlighted a six-run fifth inning that blew the game open for Albright. After Peiffer and
Tom Canuso walked, Raymond blasted a shot to left center that tied the game at 4-4.
Jared Ruppert singled in
Gabe Santone and the Lions batted around, with Peiffer singling to score
Dylan Boll and Ruppert.
Albright added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh, with
Max Dundore singling in
Mark Minnig and
Alex Myers walking home an inning later.
Wesley had jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Sam Farnell doubled in
Rob Benedict before an error led to two more unearned runs.
In game two, Boll was 1-for-2 off the bench and Santone was 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter.
The teams exchanged runs in the second inning- Myers scored on a wild pitch and
Bryan Reshetar came home on another Albright error.
The Wolverines won the game in the bottom of the sixth, when Reshetar's sacrifice fly brought home
Geoff Kimmel. Santone and Zachary Keibler each walked in the seventh inning but reliever
Mark Mattern was able to hold on for the save.
Albright (1-1) will travel to Mary Washington for another doubleheader next Sunday. Wesley is 3-1 and will play CCNY next weekend.
