The Albright College men's basketball continues to stay within striking distance in the race for a Commonwealth Conference playoff spot, alternating wins and losses over the last four contests and currently standing two games out of fourth place. The Lions will look to pull off their first sweep of the season when they visit Elizabethtown on Saturday.

Previous Meeting

Lions senior Derek Hall had 21 rebounds, the second-highest total in the long history of Albright's men's basketball program, and 17 points to lead his team to its first Commonwealth Conference victory of the season against Elizabethtown.

Albright emerged victorious by a score of 68-55 after leading by just three at the break. A 10-0 run to start the second half was capped by Shane Irwin's three-point play and the Lions had all the separation they would need to close out the Blue Jays.

Albright College Lions (12-8, 3-6 Commonwealth)

Hall followed his career-high 21-rebound performance with a career-high 30 points this past Wednesday, leading the Lions to a 92-77 win at Lycoming. For the season, he leads Albright in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rpg) and blocked shots (29).

With the loss of Irwin, guards Dave Singleton and Pedro Perez have stepped into the starting lineup and have played big roles in recent victories. Perez hit a double-overtime three pointer to beat Arcadia on Jan. 25, and Singleton equaled his season-high of seven assists against Lycoming.

Albright has the ability to spread the floor with multiple shooters, but needs to be better from behind the arc as the Lions average just 31.2% from downtown. Sophomore Reuel Moore (35.7%) had made a team-high 20 threes, and classmate Sam Marrella is shooting 40.0%. Perez had made 16 treys on the season.

Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (8-11, 4-5 Commonwealth)

Elizabethtown has been playing tight games all season, going 6-5 in contests decided by single-digit margins.

Sophomore Joe Schwalm has started every game, averaging a team-best 28.8 minutes and leading the squad in scoring (11.5 ppg). Also averaging in double-figures is his classmate, center Andrew Mantz, with 10.5 points and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.

Since losing to Albright, Etown has fought its way to fifth place by winning three of its last five conference games, including a hard-fought 69-66 victory over Lycoming.

Senior Day

The Blue Jays will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, honoring three graduating student-athletes- guard Kyle McConnell, forward Dan Silver and center Brian Allport.

Commonwealth Playoff Picture

The Lions (3-6) currently sit two games behind Alvernia and Widener for the final playoff spots, with a game remaining against each squad. Also in the way however, is Elizabethtown (4-5), who could take a giant step towards a playoff spot by beating the Lions. With games still to play against Alvernia (next Wednesday) and Widener (season finale on Feb. 18), Albright is very much alive, but they can't overlook a Blue Jays team that has been playing well as of late and has the ability to win close games.
