Box Score
The Albright College men's basketball won its second consecutive conference game on the road as the Lions defeated host Elizabethtown, 72-58.
Senior
Derek Hall was 7-of-11 from the field for 15 points, and pulled down 12 boards to complete the double-double. Sophomore
Kyle Jordan was 7-of-9 for 16 points, and also blocked four shots.
Redshirt-sophomore
Pedro Perez also shot well from the field, scoring 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. He added four assists, while junior
Dave Singleton (nine points) had a game-high six helpers.
With the win, Albright (13-8, 4-6) pulls into a tie with Elizabethtown (8-12, 4-6) for fifth place in the Commonwealth Conference standings. The Lions still trail Alvernia and Widener by two games, but will face the Crusaders at home Wednesday.
The Red and White blew things open with a 16-4 run to start the second half. Singleton found Perez in transition to make it 39-29, the game's first double-digit lead. Still less than three minutes into the period, Jordan completed a great drop step past two defenders and then took Singleton's fast break pass and scored to make it 47-33 Albright.
The Lions scored consecutive baskets on nice snap passes from Hall to Perez in transition, making it 51-33.
Sam Marrella's three-pointer then bounced in off the rim to pul Albright ahead 54-35.
One the season's more amusing plays happened with Hall's defender fronting him in the lane. Freshman
Tom Paul threw him an alley-oop over the top but his pass attempt swished down the net for three points and a 21-point Albright advantage.
Jordan scored six straight Albright points late in the first half, including forcing in a shot while being fouled, and then finishing off a put-back to give his team a 31-23 lead.
The Blue Jays' last lead of the afternoon was 7-5 off
Joe Schwalm's basket, but Marrella quickly reversed that with a wide-open three pointer.
Schwalm was 8-of-11 and had 20 points for Elizabethtown.
Phil Wenger added nine points and eight rebounds.
