Incredible Rally Comes Up Just Short in Doubleheader Loss to Messiah

Game One Box
Game Two Box

Losing 6-0 and down to their last out against the 2009 national champions, the Albright College softball team got the tying run in scoring position but couldn't bring her around, losing a 7-0, 6-5 doubleheader to Messiah on Saturday.

In the nightcap, Brandy Lagomarsino singled in Ally Martin to break up the shutout with two outs in the seventh. Miriah Wilson then knocked in Marguerite DeLucas and Jackie Bohanan doubled in Lagomarsino, suddenly halving the Falcons' advantage.

Natalie Carlucci was next up, and doubled in Bohanan and Wilson, making it 6-5 and putting the winning run at the plate. Becky Crandall made good contact, but her fly ball was fielded by CF Elizabeth D'Amelio to end the rally.

Carlucci was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the game, while Wilson was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Stephanie Romano had a no-hitter until Krista Ammon's double in the top of the fourth.

Ammon was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice for Messiah, while Stephanie Schell was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Wilson was 2-for-3 in the opener, and Kiersten Gilfoy and Hillary Rodriguez each went 1-for-2, but the Lions couldn't solve Messiah starter Sara Dietrich (6 IP, 0 runs, 4 K's).

Ammon was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Jackie Merkel (3-4, RBI, 3 runs) and Schell (2-4, run, RBI) each contributed as well.
