Softball Rallies Twice, But Still Swept at Misericordia

Game One Box
Game Two Box

The Albright College softball team came back from two down in the nightcap and nearly erased a nine-run deficit in game one, but the Lions were still swept at Misericordia, 11-10 and 5-4 on Wednesday.

For the second consecutive time, Natalie Carlucci homered in both ends of a doubleheader. She battled with Misericordia's Caitlin Cromley however, who blasted game-winning home runs in both contests.

In the opener, Carlucci was 1-for-4 with a homer and Alysa Romero was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Becky Crandall went 3-for-4, knocked in three runs, and scored three times.

For Misericordia, Cromley was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and picked up the win on the mound. Mallory Getts was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored three times.

Down 10-1 in the top of the fifth, Crandall doubled in Brandy Lagomarsino and Kiersten Gilfoy. She then scored on an error before Jackie Bohanan singled in Carlucci.

Cromley hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth, for what would go down as the winning run.

In their final at-bat, Crandall doubled in Miriah Wilson and then scored on Carlucci's two-run HR. Nikki Schwenk doubled in Ally Martin and Hillary Rodriguez scored on an error. Suddenly down by one run with just one out, Lagomarsino flew out but Schwenk was thrown out at home on the attempted sacrifice fly.

In the nightcap, Crandall was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Carlucci (1-2) homered again. Wilson went 2-for-3 and knocked in a run.

Jill Castaldi went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run for the Cougars, while Cromley blasted a walk-off homer in the seventh.

Down 4-2 in the top of the sixth, Schwenk doubled in Romero and then scored on Wilson's double. The rally didn't hold however, as Cromley launched a walk-off home run to lead off the top of the seventh.
