Stephanie Romano took a no-hitter late into the opener, but the Albright College softball team lost in extra innings and was ultimately swept by Stevenson, 2-1 and 5-2 on Thursday.
Romano went eight innings in the opener, allowing just one earned run and striking out four, but still took the loss.
Kiersten Gilfoy (2-3) and
Becky Crandall (2-4) each had multi-hit games for the Lions.
Romano did make an error early on, but kept the Mustangs hit-less through four. Albright turned a 6-3-5 double play to end the top of the fourth.
Crandall led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, and
Shannon Stevens came in to pinch run. She advanced to second on
Natalie Carlucci's sacrifice bunt, and then to third on a deep fly ball to center from
Alysa Romero. The threat ended however when
Briana Pichalski caught the outside corner for a called third strike on
Nikki Schwenk.
With two out in the fifth,
Kristin Baione broke up the no-no by poking a slow roller to the shortstop.
The Mustangs later broke a 0-0 deadlock in the top of the eighth, as
Lindsay Kuczak singled in
Brittani Rynkowski and
Brittany King doubled in Rynkowski.
Marguerite DeLucas scored in the bottom half, but it was all the Lions could muster.
In the nightcap, Schwenk was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while
Allie Frank threw two perfect innings of relief.
Albright took a 2-1 lead after two, but Stevenson tallied twice in the fourth and fifth stanzas to pull away.
The Lions fall to 6-21-1, and travel to Arcadia on Saturday for their Commonwealth Conference finale.
